    Reflecting on Rankine

    by Iain MacPhail and Friends

Iain MacPhail & Friends - Reflecting on Rankine: With a lineup featuring Iain Macphail, Jack and John Delaney, Alastair McGirr, Andrew Knight and the late, legendary, Billy Thom, the disc has 20 tracks compiled by Iain and Jack to pay tribute to their old friend, Alloa bandleader Andrew Rankine. A must-have collection for Rankine fans and Scottish dance band enthusiasts alike.

Andrew Rankine () formed his first band in the villageof Menstrie, Clackmannanshire in 1949. He became one of the most famous Country dance band leaders, acclaimed by Scottish Dance enthusiasts and fellow Dance musicians. He was renowned for his skill as an accordionist and also for his ability as arranger and composer. He was at the forefront in the development of a new approach to Country Dance Music which gathered momentum in the early 1950s. He introduced new harmonies and added an extra dimension by making greater use of the second accordion.
