Raemond Jappy was born in the coastal town of Buckie in the North East of Scotland and moved to neighbouring Findochty at an early age, where he received his first few violin lessons with the highly regarded fiddler, James Alexander, at the village school. On leaving school, Raemond went to the University of Aberdeen where he studied Accountancy with Music, graduating in July 2006 with first class honours. Whilst at university, Raemond received fiddle lessons from Paul Anderson, past Glenfiddich winner and, since graduating, has received further, invaluable insight into the “North East Style” from Douglas Lawrence, highly regarded as one of the country’s finest exponents in recent years.
Raemond is a Glenfiddich Fiddle Champion, having won this most prestigious competition at Blair Atholl Castle in October of 2008. |
