    Fire On!

    by Blazin' Fiddles

'They were formed formed in 1998 for a short tour organised by the Highland Festival. The idea was to showcase six of the Highlands and Islands' distinct regional fiddle styles, before combining at the end of an evening, for a bit of a wild session. The tour proved to be an enormous success, for audiences, and the the musicians involved. Over the past years the ensemble playing has become a more prominent feature of the live show and that is reflected in this, our first CD.

    1. The Heights of Cassino/ Donald, Willie and His Dog/ The Kilbrandon Jig
    2. Dolina MacKay/ The Little Cascade/ The Banshee
Two classic pipe reels followed by one of the greats of Irish Music. This set demonstrates the driving energy of Blazin' Fiddles
    3. The Greenland Man's Tune/ Sister Jean
    4. Bodaich Bheaga Abriachain (The Little Old Men of Abriachan)/ Loch Gorm/ Colin Clachair/ Johnny Finlay
    5. Ho Da Lo La Lo/ Ghoid lad mo Bhean an raoir (They Stole my Wife Last Night)/ Ugi's na mo thriall dhachaidh (My trip home)
These tunes are taken from Gaelic work songs, which were used traditionally for the practice of wauking or fulling tweed.
    6. The Glenfinnan Midge Factory/ Cairan Tourish/ The Waves of Rush/ Carol-Anne's Reel
    7. Marnie Swanson of the Grey Coast
This beautiful, enchanting, tune was written by Andy. Marnie Swanson was a fictitious character in a play that Andy was involved in with the Grey Coast Theatre Company.
    8. Kenny MacDonalds Jig/ Garster's Dream/ The Grey Buck/ Ho ro mo Bhobain an Dram (The favourite dram)
This set of jigs was put together as part of a concert in Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, celebrating the links between the Gaelic lanuage and its native land. The tunes were to be drawn from the six areas covered by the Crofting Act of 1886.
    9. The Lochaber Gathering/ In and Out the Harbour/ Barney's Balmoral
This is one of the first sets that we played together as a band and has remained a firm favourite.
    10. Mrs Robertson of Greshornish/ Stirling Castle/ Donnie MacGregor/ The Rambler
    11. Farquhar and Hettie's Waltz/ My Cape Breton Home
    12. The Mouseskin Shoe/ Siobán O'Donnell's/ Peter MacKinnon of Skeabost/ Bonnie Mulligan
Four tunes composed by some of the contempory composers of traditional music. We learned these tunes from recordings of some of today's most influential traditional musicians including Donal Lunny and Sharon Shannon.
