The compositions in both ancient and contemporary idioms from Gaelic cultures are represented, as are ones which echo some of the world's other traditions. To this add Blair's consummate skill as a musician, those of some of the very best in Scotland. Accordionist and composer Blair Douglas from Skye was a founder member of the bands  Runrig, Mactalla and Cliar, and has created a series of  highly-regarded recordings under his own name. His recording 'Beneath the Beret'  released in 1990 includes Kate Martin's Waltz which became an instant hit with traditional musicians and remains a classic of the genre and Solus m'Aigh (Light of Hope) sung by Arthur Cormack, a haunting and stunningly beautiful song which Blair dedicated to his friend Fr. Colin MacInnes.  

With 'Beneath the Beret' Blair Douglas brings together traditional and contemporary music and song featuring artists who perform across the spectrum of Scottish music. Among those performing on the album are singers Michael Marra, Kim Beacon, Jim Wilkie and Arthur Cormack.The players include Chaz Stewart, ColinTully and Eddy McGlone.
