The Complete Songs of Robert Tannahill Vol.2: Since the centenary edition of his works and festivities in Paisley in 1874, which drew crowds of 15,000 to celebrate his life and art, Robert Tannahill has been sadly neglected. But thanks to Dr Fred Freeman, a project to record over 100 of Robert Tannahill's songs over five volumes is well under way. We are delighted to have Volume 2 available this week. Tannahill's work is of a quality that compares with Robert Burns, and these songs constitute his great legacy. This is a lovely album which features some of Scotland's finest singers and musicians.
Singers: Steve Byrne, Emily Smith, Nick Keir, Jim Malcolm, Lucy Pringle, Brian O hEadra, Marieke McBean.
Instrumentalists: John Martin - fiddle; Aaron Jones - cittern; Marc Duff - whistles, bodhran, bouzouki; Stevoe Lawrence - cittern, mandolin, bodhran; Angus Lyon - accordion, piano; Frank McLaughlin - guitar; Wendy Weatherby - cello, second voice; Chris Wright - cittern, guitar; Chris Agnew - acoustic bass; Ian Anderson - guitar, mandolin; Mike Black - tabla; Richard Werner - conga, djembe.
