    In A Bleeze

by Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller

Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller are charming lassies and oh so talented! Siobhan Miller has a stunning voice and Jeana Leslie is a fine fiddler and singer. In A Bleeze, their debut CD made in the wake of winning the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, is a lovely mix which displays their combined talents admirable. A special mention for Siobhan Miller's singing of the traditional 'Mary Mild'  and their lovely 'Goodbye to the Sea and Sailors' a contemporary song written by Phamie Gow. 'In A Bleeze' should help Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller become known on the world stage.

    Media Reviews

    A very impressive debut.

A very impressive debut. These RSAMD students hail from Orkney and Penicuik respectively, and won the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2008. In a genre where vocals are often an afterthought, they excel in that department, both in Miller's lovely lead singing and in their beautifully judged harmony vocals.

Their interpretations of traditional songs (including some unusual variants) like Time Wears Awa', Mad Tom of Bedlam (aka Bedlam Boys), Mild Mary (a version of Four Marys) and a north-east take on The Parting Glass (live from the BBC award ceremony) have an appealing freshness and vitality, while the more contemporary material is equally well-chosen. Leslie is a fine fiddler, and the instrumental sets – augmented by a number of session guests – are far from fillers. A likely contender when the album of the year lists are put together..

This pair deserve all the awards they are already starting to garner

Young Siobhan Miller is a great singer of traditional song. With singer, pianist and fiddler Jeana Leslie she's formed a special partnership – heard to beautiful, poignant effect in their spare, voices-with-piano setting of the Willie Scott favourite 'Time Wears Awa'. Elsewhere Leslie takes solo vocals in the lightly accompanied, atmospheric 'Three Sailors', Miller sings a cappella, and the tracks are cleverly arranged, as in the voices-in-the-head 'Bedlam Boys'. This pair deserve all the awards they are already starting to garner.......Norman Chalmers.

    A joy to listen to

..Saying that Leslie and Miller are wonderful singers with an amazing talent for arranging and harmonies, is a complete understatement..Jean Price
