Sandy Brechin - Out Of His Box (CD)
by
Sandy Brechin
Out Of His Box - Sandy Brechin: Sandy, from Edinburgh, is one of the greatest exponents of the Scottish accordion. His debut album, “Out Of His Box”, was released on his own label, in April 1996. Playing alongside Sandy on the 14 tracks are Aaron Jones (bass guitar, bouzouki), Colin Macfarlane (guitars, mandolin, lapsteel) and Jim Walker (drums, percussion). The album was received with great acclaim and was voted one of the best folk albums of 1996 by BBC Radio Scotland’s “Travelling Folk” programme. The reviewer for Living Tradition said " 'My initial reaction? Phil Cunningham on stimulants...every note is spot on, and there is a degree of control in the music which is all too rare in folk accordion players: no racing away with a tune, and nothing so fast that the music gets blurred. Sandy's fingers may be a blur at times, but the notes are always crisp and clear." Folk Roots said " a fascinating and entertaining album. Highly recommended."
