Jeannie Robertson - Scottish Ballads And Folk Songs

    by Jeannie Robertson

Scottish Ballads and Folk Songs - Jeannie Robertson: Produced by Kenneth S. Goldstein & Hamish Henderson and recorded by Alexander Folkarde, here we have another  selection of traditional Scottish folk songs and ballads from the great Jeannie Robertson ().  This recording probably from around 1953 has Jeannie singing such gems as 'A Aul' Man Cam' Coortin' Me' , 'Tak' the Buckles Frae Your Sheen', 'Johnny the Brine', 'Aberdeen Street Games and Songs'. Jeannie Robertson  was descended from the Traveller people. She is regarded as the century's finest carrier and interpreter of Scots ballads and folk song as well as Scots and Traveller folklore and tradition. It was said of Jeannie Robertson that 'When she sang, she knew and understood every nuance of the relationships between the characters in the story, their motives and the consequences of their actions - and by the time she'd finished, so did the listener."

This CD, made from an early LP, features fourteen songs from the repertoire of this great lady of Scots song. There may be a few slight imperfections associated with the age of the original material, but we have tried to make the sound quality of the CD as clear and crisp as possible. We hope that you will agree with us that the quality of the music still shines through.
