Bob Bertram has been writing and performing his humorous songs and poems on the Edinburgh folk scene since the Sixties. Through his folk-singing he has made many friends, including Hamish Henderson. This book is the first publication of a selection of his works and is a colourful contribution to Scottish folklore. Many of the themes are surprisingly relevant to life today.
Using equipment borrowed from the School of Scottish Studies, brother and sister David and Norma Allan took on the task of taping as many of Bob Bertram's poems and songs as could be gathered up. Most were written in the 1960s and 70s, many of which were jotted down on odd scraps of paper. Having completed this mammoth task, it seemed a shame that his collection would lie in a file in the School of Scottish Studies unseen by the public so, it was decided to go ahead a publish a selection - the topics include fuel costs, traffic problems, road works government scandals, the Union and recession.
Bob Bertram at the age of 81 is still singing and reciting his poems on the Edinburgh folk scene.
