The 2008 World Pipe Band Championships was won by the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band from Canada led by Pipe Major Terry Lee and this DVD displays their admirable talents on that great occasion at Glasgow Green in August 2008 along with the great playing of the next six runner-up bands.
The fabulous annual event attracts many thousands of spectators who can watch around 8000 pipers and drummers in 200 bands from as many as 16 nations compete for the prestigious World Pipe Band Champions title.
The World Pipe Band Championships have been operating regularly since 1930, when the Scottish Pipe Band Association (today known as the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association) was formed. For competitive bands, the title of World Champion is highly coveted, and this event is seen as the culmination of a year's worth of preparation, rehearsal and practice.
