There is nothing on earth quite as spectacular as sitting high up above the old town on the Esplanade of historic Edinburgh Castle in the gloaming of a late summer's evening and hearing the announcement "Ladies and Gentlemen, the massed pipes and drums!"then waiting in anticipation as in the distance you can hear them coming closer and closer and getting louder and louder: then as they appear marching out through the portcullis of the ancient fortress, kilts swinging, feather bonnets and plaids flying in the breeze, fanning out into their formations - it's sheer magic if you are a Scot and one of the glories of the Edinburgh International Festival much loved by visitors who flock in their thousands to every performance.
