    Lauren MacColl

    Bookmark and Share

    Brought up in the Black Isle and now based in Glasgow, Lauren MacColl was a winner of the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2004/5 and is quickly establishing herself as ‘the leading light in the galaxy of young fiddle players.’

    Since winning the BBC RADIO 2 YOUNG FOLK AWARD in 2005, Lauren MacColl has gone from strength to strength fronting her trio with Barry Reid and James Ross. Fiddle led, with the driving combination of piano and guitar, they take you on a musical journey from rousing Highland strathspeys and reels, to emotive Gaelic airs, with a large slice of self penned material thrown in. A highland dancer from the age of 4, MacColl’s passion for pipe music was instilled in her from an early age and is reflected in her repertoire today. Largely self taught, and through the summer schools of the Feisean movement in Ross-shire, she was immersed in the rich and vibrant culture of her home area while brought up on a staple diet of Phil and Aly tapes. In her relatively short career her playing has taken her far and wide, and to gig with, amongst others, the late legendary Callum Kennedy, and all-girl group Dochas. Her music has earned her further recognition in arts circles, having recently received a prestigious Dewar Arts Award to fund the recording of her debut album, due for release on her own label in Jan 2007. Quotes: 'intensely beautiful fiddling' (BBC.CO.UK) 'sheer technical prowess, blistering reel sets, and stunning HIghland Tunes.' (Hi-arts.co.uk) 'The most beautiful playing of a slow air I have ever heard!' (Mike Harding, Radio 2) }
